Patient Safety & Infection Control

At Health-Wise Family Care Center, the health, safety, and well-being of our patients and staff are our highest priorities. We strictly adhere to guidelines set forth by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).

1. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard

We maintain rigorous compliance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) to protect our patients and staff from exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). This includes:

  • Universal Precautions: Our clinical staff treats all human blood and certain human body fluids as if they are known to be infectious for HIV, HBV, and other bloodborne pathogens.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Our staff is equipped with and trained in the proper use of gloves, gowns, masks, and eye protection during clinical procedures, including IV hydration therapy and urgent care treatments.
  • Safe Sharps Disposal: Needles and sharps are immediately disposed of in puncture-resistant, leak-proof, properly labeled containers located as close as feasible to the area of use.

2. Environmental Cleaning & Sterilization

A clean environment is critical to preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Our facility protocols include:

  • Room Sanitization: Patient examination rooms, chairs, and surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectants between every patient visit.
  • Equipment Sterilization: All reusable medical instruments undergo rigorous cleaning and sterilization processes in accordance with CDC guidelines before they are cleared for use.
  • Hand Hygiene: We strictly enforce CDC hand hygiene guidelines. Hand sanitizer dispensers are available in every room, and staff wash hands before and after every patient encounter.

3. Respiratory Hygiene & Airborne Protocols

To protect against airborne illnesses (such as flu, COVID-19, and RSV):

  • Patients presenting with active respiratory symptoms may be asked to wear a mask and will be rapidly triaged to an isolation room when possible.
  • Our facility is equipped with appropriate ventilation to ensure high air quality and minimize airborne pathogen transmission.

4. Continuous Staff Training

Compliance is an ongoing process. All Health-Wise clinical and administrative staff undergo annual mandatory training on:

  • OSHA Hazard Communication Standards.
  • Emergency action and fire prevention plans.
  • Proper handling of biohazardous waste.
